April Mental Health Spotlight:

April Mental Health Spotlight: Flourishing, Rekindling Passion, and Supporting Well-Being in Education

April is here, and it brings us the opportunity to shine a light on mental health—a vital aspect of well-being for educators and school staff. This year, we’re embracing the theme of *flourishing*, inspired by the work of Dr. Corey Keyes, who defines flourishing as thriving, finding meaning, and moving beyond survival to truly thrive.

Let’s take this month to prioritize well-being, rekindle our passion for the work we do, and support one another as a school community.

Flourishing and Rekindling Passion at Work:

As educators and school staff, it’s easy to feel disconnected from the passion that first brought you into this profession. Flourishing involves reconnecting with positive emotions, purpose, and effective daily functioning. Here are some ways to rekindle your spark:

  1. Reconnect with Your “Why”: Reflect on the moments that made you proud to be an educator or staff member. What impact have you made on students and colleagues?
  2. Engage in Professional Growth: Seek out workshops, conferences, or training sessions that inspire and energize you.
  3. Celebrate Small Wins: Acknowledge daily victories, no matter how small, and share them with your team.

Simple Ways to Support Mental Health for Educators and School Staff:

  1. Practice Team Self-Care: Collaborate with colleagues to organize stress-relief activities, like group yoga sessions or a wellness challenge such as walking.
  2. Recognize Contributions: Everyone’s efforts—big or small—deserve recognition. A kind word or a simple “thank you” can go a long way. Take a look at “Mobilizing the Conversations” which offers short mini lessons that can be introduced to staff at work. “How do you want to be recognized at work” is found under the resource tab on (https://careforallineducation.com/connecting-passion/).
  3. Take Five: Take short breaks during the day to reset and recharge.

A Call to Flourish Together:

This April, let’s commit to flourishing—not just as individuals, but as a community. By rekindling our passion and supporting one another, we can create a thriving environment for ourselves and our students. Together, we can celebrate well-being, strengthen connections, and make a lasting impact.
